What is UPSC?

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is a constitutional body in India that conducts exams for the government. It recruits candidates for the All India Services, Central Services, and the Armed Forces.

The UPSC conducts various examinations in accordance with the rules of examination as notified by the Government of India in a just, fair and impartial manner for making a merit-based selection and recommendation of candidates for various Group A and Group B services of the Government of India.

The main role of the UPSC is conducting examinations to decide upon appointments to All India Services, Central Services, and Public Sector Enterprises.

What exams are conducted by UPSC?

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts many exams, including the Civil Services Examination, the Indian Forest Service Examination, and the National Defence Academy Examination.

  • Civil Services Examination: The main exam To get entry into the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) 
  • Indian Forest Service Examination: To get entry into the Indian Forest Service (IFoS) 
  • Engineering Services Examination: To get entry into engineering services 
  • Combined Defence Services Examination: To get entry into the armed forces
  • National Defence Academy Examination: To get entry into the National Defence Academy 
  • Combined Medical Services Examination: To get entry into medical services
  • Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandants) Examination: To get entry into the Central Armed Police Forces
  • Indian Statistical Service Examination: To get entry into the Indian Statistical Service

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam pattern consists of three stages: Preliminary Examination (Prelims), Mains Examination, and Personality Test (Interview).
